Teri Barnes solves insurance and risk management puzzles for her clients. Clients have called her their "secret weapon" as she is an integral part of the success of their rapidly growing businesses. Barnes is a second-generation insurance professional. She is one of a rare few who has a Bachelor’s degree in Insurance. Barnes also earned her CIC designation, attends Insurance Ruble Institutes, RIMS, and IRMI Construction Risk Management seminars to remain current on changes in insurance policy forms, laws, and interpretations. Barnes was an insurance lobbyist and has carried several critical bills through Sacramento. 

Barnes started her career in a two-year Executive Management Program with AIG that involved all aspects of insurance from rating, claims handling, finance and underwriting. During her tenure at AIG, she worked in Risk Management, handling coordination of offshore rig safety and emergency evacuation procedures for oil companies following the North Sea fires. Barnes became a top agent performer with one of the largest insurance agencies in the world. She founded Marrs Barnes & Maddocks as well as the innovative internet agency, NetChoice, a predecessor to Esurance. As business changes, Barnes’ team is quick to adapt to unique products and creative insurance solutions.

Barnes was on the Risk Management Committee of the BIA. She was a part of the Green Energy Coalition in Washington D.C., and a Risk Manager for Energy Visions, LLC. Teri Barnes is also honored to have been on many boards of directors, focused on giving back to her community as well as other San Diegans.
